The Weight of Silence

Twenty-two looks shot across three days in an abandoned grain silo on the edge of Nordhavn. Creative director Astrid Vinter describes the collection as "an exercise in listening — to fabric, to space, to the pause between one step and the next."

The grain silo on Refshaleøen had been decommissioned for eleven years when Astrid Vinter first walked through its rusted door in January 2026. "The acoustics were extraordinary," she recalls, standing in what would become the primary shooting location for Monograph's sixth collection. "Every footstep returned to you three seconds later, transformed into something lower, something almost vocal."

The Weight of Silence — twenty-two looks in undyed wool, raw silk, and brushed cotton — was conceived during that visit. Vinter had been working with a single constraint: no colour. Not as provocation, but as discipline. "When you remove hue, you're left with weight, with drape, with the way light moves across a surface. That's where the real design happens."

The opening look, a floor-length coat in untreated merino with an inverted pleat running the full length of the back, took the atelier four months to resolve. "The pleat had to move like a door opening," says pattern cutter Søren Dahl. "Not a kick — a slow, hydraulic release."

Photographer Lise Berg captured the collection over three days in February, working exclusively with natural light from the silo's upper apertures. "We shot between ten and two," Berg explains. "The light shifts dramatically in that window — from almost grey to something approaching silver. Astrid wanted the clothes to exist in that transition."

The collection will be available at Monograph's Copenhagen atelier and selected stockists from September 2026.
